Cat symptoms triage

Your cat is unwell but you don't know what they ate. Select the symptoms you're seeing and we'll show the most likely UK cat toxins to discuss with your vet.

This tool doesn't replace a vet

If your cat is unwell — any vomiting, wobbliness, tremors, seizures, breathing changes, or collapse — call your vet now. Use this tool to help describe what you're seeing, not to delay a call.

When to treat any symptom as an emergency

  • Seizures, tremors, or collapse — emergency, go now.
  • Breathing difficulty or rapid breathing — emergency.
  • Brown-grey gums (instead of pink) — paracetamol or other blood-affecting toxin. Emergency.
  • Repeated vomiting with blood — emergency.
  • No urine produced in 12+ hours — possible kidney injury (lilies, antifreeze, grapes). Emergency.
  • Sudden unsteadiness that looks like 'drunkenness' — possible antifreeze, alcohol, or essential oil exposure. Emergency.
